Step 2
"Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity"
What can we believe in? AA does not demand belief.
The Twelve Steps are only suggestions. It is important to keep an open mind. Faith is achieved through a variety of ways. For some, AA is substituted for a Higher Power.
The plight of the disillusioned may result in roadblocks of indifference and prejudice. Lost faith can be found in AA. Intellectuality and self-sufficiency can cause problems. Negativity, self-righteousness and defiance are outstanding characteristic of alcoholics. Step
Two is a rallying point to sanity and achieving a right relation to God.
Tradition Two
Tradition Two "It is the great paradox of A.A. that we
know we can seldom keep the precious gift of sobriety unless we give it away. For our group purpose there is but one
ultimate authority-a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern."
Where does AA get its direction? The sole authority in AA is a loving Gold as He may express Himself in the group conscience. Formation of a group. Growing pains. Rotating committees are servants of the group. Leaders do not govern, they serve. Does AA have a real leadership? The group conscience speaks.
